Baylor to Begin Sunday Vespers

September 29, 1998

The Baylor University chaplain's office will begin a new all-university worship service called Sunday Vespers at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, at Miller Chapel in the Tidwell Bible Building.
Dr. Milton Cunningham, university chaplain and coordinator of Vespers, said more Baylor students attend Sunday morning church services than Sunday evening services. This gives the Baylor family an opportunity to worship together, he said.
"There has not been an opportunity for the campus to come together and worship," Cunningham said. "We are not trying to compete with the local churches. We are trying to provide an opportunity for students to take part in a campus worship experience."
Cunningham said members of the Baylor faculty, student body and staff will participate in the leadership of the 45-minute services. Baylor President Robert B. Sloan Jr. will give a message at the first Vespers. Music and scripture readings also will be a part of the services.
Sunday Vespers will be held each Sunday from October 4 through Nov. 22.
