Baylor's Valahu to Speak on European Union

Dr. Daniel Valahu, associate professor of French, Italian and Chinese in the department of modern foreign languages, will speak on "The ABCs of the European Union" Thursday, Sept. 24, at 4 p.m. in the third floor Cowden Room in the Bill Daniel Student Center. The talk is free and open to all students and faculty.
Valahu's lecture is the first of a series of fall lectures presented by the Council for International Education at Baylor. Other topics that will be discussed include the current situations in China and Russia, Ireland and the European economy, Asia's economic crisis, and the bombing of the American embassy in Kenya.
The council is also sponsoring two free film series during the fall. Acclaimed foreign films will be shown at 4 p.m. Tuesdays in room 101 of the Castellaw Communications Center, with the 1983 Italian film, "Aqua Sapone," featured Oct. 6. On Thursdays at 4 p.m. in Bennett Auditorium, the council will present films from Latin America. The next screening is Oct. 8.
