'The Turn of the Screw' to Be Presented June 19-21

June 17, 1998

The Baylor University theater department will present Henry James' classic tale of the supernatural, The Turn of the Screw, Friday through Sunday in the Mabee Theater in the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Building. Performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday with a matinee scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
Adapted for the stage in 1996 by playwright Jeffrey Hatcher, the classic ghost story centers around a young woman who accepts a job as governess to two children. She soon discovers that her predecessor committed suicide after an affair with the valet, who also committed suicide. The governess becomes convinced that the ghosts of the two lovers are trying to drive her away and to possess the children.
The two-person play features Elizabeth Van Winkle, a senior from Lake Charles, La., in the role of the governess and Eric Shephard, a graduate student from Waco, as four other characters.
Tickets for The Turn of the Screw are $6 and can be purchased at the theater box office
