National Council Of Churches Official To Give Dobbs Lecture
Dr. Eileen W. Linder, deputy general secretary for research and planning of the National Council of Churches of Christ in the U.S.A., will give the annual W.C. Dobbs Endowed Lecture in Applied Christianity at Baylor University's George W. Truett Theological Seminary.
A Presbyterian minister and an expert on issues related to faith-based initiatives, ecumenism, and children and families, Linder will speak on "Christian Unity in a World of Religious Pluralism" at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 3, in the Paul Powell Chapel at Truett Seminary. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Linder is the author of "When Churches Mind the Children," a groundbreaking study of church-housed child care that served as an important case study in issues related to faith-based initiatives. Her other publications include "Our National Policy of Child Carelessness," "Women and Church" and "Still In But Out." She also is editor of the Yearbook of American and Canadian Churches.
As the former director of the NCCC's Child Advocacy Office, Linder founded the Ecumenical Child Care Network, which served 18,000 preschool programs housed in churches of all denominations nationwide. She has served as co-director of the Child and Family Justice Project of the NCCC and special consultant to the Middle East Council of Churches and United Presbyterian Church in the United States and Beirut, Lebanon.
Linder earned her master's of divinity degree from McCormick Theological Seminary and her doctorate in church history from Union Theological Seminary. She has taught and lectured on the history of ecumenism, ministry, child advocacy and church/state relations.
