Geophysicist To Speak Feb. 25 At Baylor

Dr. Roberto Gutierrez, a geophysicist from the Bureau of Economic Geology at the University of Texas at Austin, will speak at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, in room E231 in the Baylor Sciences Building on the Baylor University campus. The topic will be new applications of radar interferometry (using interfering electromagnetic waves for measurement) and lidar (light detection and ranging) for environmental monitoring and geologic mapping. The lecture is free and open to the public.
The Bureau of Economic Geology was established in 1909 as a successor to the Texas Geological Survey and the Texas Mineral Survey. Today the bureau functions as a research unit of the University of Texas, the State Geological Survey and the Regional Lead Organization for the Petroleum Technology Transfer Council. It also provides wide-ranging advisory, technical, informational, and research-based services to industries, nonprofit organizations and federal, state and local agencies.
