Joyce Jones Opens Midwinter Organ Conference

Dr. Joyce Jones, Baylor University's Organist-in-Residence, will present the opening recital of the 11th annual Midwinter Organ conference at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, in Paul Powell Chapel of George W. Truett Theological Seminary.

Playing a recital on her birthday is nothing new, as Jones played the dedication of the Roxy Grove Hall organ on the same date 33 years ago. Her program, including favorite works by Bach, Langlais, and Liszt, is designed to show the many colors of the Carter Family Organ in the Powell Chapel.

Jones will begin by playing Fête by Jean Langlais, the Rondo movement from Concerto for Flute Stop by Johann Christian Heinrich Rinck, and the Fantasie and Fugue in G minor, BWV 542, of Johann Sebastian Bach, followed by a set of two descriptive sketches - Capriccio Cucu by Richard Purvis and Seth Bingham's Twilight at Fiesole.

The program will close with John Weaver's Sine Nomine and then the Fantasie and Fugue on "Ad nos, ad salutarem undam" by Franz Liszt.
