WACO, Texas (April 15, 2021) – As Baylor University winds down the spring semester, students will be able to take a break from studying each evening of April 19-24 and enjoy a range of campus activities in the spirit of the University's Diadeloso tradition.

Dia Week events include student performances, games, concerts, food trucks, the Baylor Football spring game and much more. In addition, students can order Dia apparel beginning April 20, from retro options (yellow "Throwback 1984 Día Shirt" or green "Throwback 1982 Día Shirt") to this year's official "89th Annual Dia Shirt."

"Students will be able to enjoy many events over the course of the week in the spirit of Diadeloso, including good food, community movie night, a musical artist and plenty of COVID-safe games and activities," said Dakota Farquhar-Caddell, associate director of student activities and Robert L. Reid Director of the Baylor Chamber of Commerce. "Our students have worked hard to keep each other and our community safe this year, and it’s especially fitting that we make extra time for joy and fun as the semester winds down. We can’t wait to celebrate the spirit of Baylor all week long."

Dia started in 1932 as a way to "bring smiles to the faces of students" by giving them a break from classes. The annual spring holiday gradually became a favorite pastime. Re-organized by the Chamber of Commerce in 1935, its popularity rapidly grew and the name of the occasion through the years changed from All University Day to Physical Fitness Day to May Day. In 1966, students voted to name the annual occasion "Diadeloso" or "The Day of the Bear."
