Czech Writer to Lecture, Give Reading April 20-21

Eda Kriseová, a writer in the Czech Republic, will give a lecture and a reading of her own works on April 20-21 at Baylor University. Kriseová will discuss "The Writer Before, During and After the Revolution of '89" on Monday in the White-Beckam Room in the Bill Daniel Student Center and will give a reading Tuesday in the Hankamer Treasure Room in the Armstrong-Browning Library. Both events, which are sponsored by Baylor's Slavic studies program, will begin at 4 p.m.
Kriseová, who lives in Prague, has written and published numerous stories set in both the communist and post-communist eras in Czech history. She worked for Listy, a literary weekly, until the paper was dissolved in 1969 by the government. .
After Kriseová's work was banned from all newspapers and magazines, she became a prominent member of Civic Forum, the opposition movement that brought down the communist regime of Czechoslovakia in 1989. She returned to writing two and a half years later and has published nine novels, two children's books and the biography of Czech President Václav Havel.
Kriseová's lecture and reading are free and open to the public.
