Collegium Musicum Concert Set for March 31

Baylor University's early music ensemble, Collegium Musicum, will present its spring concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Hankamer Treasure Room of Armstrong Browning Library. Christine Getz, assistant professor of music history and literature and the group's regular director, is away on her research sabbatical. Collegium Musicum's William Casey Baroque Ensemble will be led on this occasion by guest conductor Joan Brickley.
The program will consist of concertos by two of the great masters of the German baroque, Georg Philipp Telemann and Johann Sebastian Bach.
Though written in Darmstadt around 1720, Telemann's Concerto a quattro in D Major remained in obscurity until after World War II. The original manuscript was not edited and published until 1950.
Much better known is Bach's set of six Brandenburg Concertos, of which the William Casey Baroque Ensemble will play No. 3 in G Major, BWV 1048. This concerto grosso was composed in Weimar around 1713 and dedicated to Margrave Christian Ludwig of Brandenburg.
