WACO, Texas (Jan. 31, 2020) – This week, Baylor University will host guest speakers from a variety of academic disciplines, such as religion, entrepreneurship, music and athletics. The University will host Grammy Award-winning vocalist and professor of music at Middle Tennessee State University Cedric Dent, Ph.D., at the 2020 Pruit Symposium.

MONDAY, Feb. 3

Chapel Highlights - U.S. Air Force Chaplain and Lt. Col. Andrew McIntosh will speak to Chapel at 9:05, 10:10 and 11:15 a.m. in Waco Hall, 624 Speight Ave. For more information, visit the Spiritual Life website.

Movie Mondays - Movie Mondays will host a screening of “This Changes Everything,” a documentary that discusses the underrepresentation and misrepresentation of women in the entertainment industry. In the film, some of Hollywood’s leading voices discuss the history and systemic forces that foster gender discrimination and how solutions to the problem must come from within the industry. The screening will start at 7 p.m. at the Waco Hippodrome, 724 Austin Ave. Free tickets can be picked up at the Waco Hippodrome Box Office or online at Student Activities website.

Baylor Chamber Singers and Symphony Orchestra - Baylor University Chamber singers, conducted by Brian A. Schmidt, M.M., associate professor of choral music, and the Baylor Symphony Orchestra, led by Stephen Heyde, conductor-in-residence, will perform music by Johann Sebastian Bach at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building, 110 Baylor Ave. The concert is free and open to the public. TUESDAY, Feb. 4

World Cinema Series - The department of modern languages and cultures will show “Rodin,” a French drama written and directed by Jacques Doillon. The film is about the famous French sculptor Auguste Rodin, who is known for “The Thinker” sculpture, and his romance with Camille Claudel. The screening will begin at 6 p.m. in the Draper Academic Building’s Bennett Auditorium, 1420 S. Seventh St. The film will be shown with English subtitles and is open to the public. Lyceum Series: Vicky Chow - Canadian pianist Vicky Chow will perform as part of the School of Music’s Lyceum Series. Chow has been captivating audiences around the world with her musical repertoire and has collaborated with some of the most renowned composers throughout her career. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Roxy Grove Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building, 110 Baylor Ave. The concert is free and open to the public. Confessions of an Entrepreneur Lunch Speaker Series - Austin Meek, owner of the Waco Pokey O’s, will speak to entrepreneur students as part of the Confessions of an Entrepreneur lunch-time speaker series. This series connects successful, local entrepreneurs with Baylor students and faculty to promote local business owners and demonstrate that there is more than one path to successful entrepreneurship. 2020 Pruit Symposium - The 2020 Pruit Symposium will host Grammy Award-winning vocalist and professor of music at Middle Tennessee State University Cedric Dent, Ph.D. Dent has won multiple Grammy Awards in gospel and jazz and also has won several Dove awards. The symposium brings the perspective of the Christian intellectual tradition to contemporary issues of common concern. Since 2013, the symposium has focused on the tradition of American black sacred music in conjunction with the Black Gospel Music Restoration Project of the Baylor Libraries. WEDNESDAY, Feb. 5

Chapel Highlights - Omari Head, worship leader and college pastor at Acts Church, will speak to Chapel at 9:05, 10:10 and 11:15 a.m. in Waco Hall, 624 Speight Ave. Head received his Master of Divinity from George W. Professional Development Program: Interviewing Success - Adam Cannard, talent acquisitions manager at Fisher Investments, will speak to Baylor students and discuss the best practices for interview preparation and success. Cannard leads a team of recruiters, talent advisers, sourcing specialists and talent coordinators who help Fisher Investments hire candidates across all disciplines. THURSDAY, Feb. 6

Director’s Forum - Baylor University’s Mayborn Museum Complex celebrates the sixth year of the popular Director’s Forum. This year’s speakers include Kim Mulkey, Trey Crumpton and Scott Lewis, and attendees get to enjoy off-site tours of the Bear Habitat and Armstrong Browning Library. The forum will start at 9 a.m. at the Mayborn Museum Complex, 1300 S. University Parks Drive.

Investigating Impeachment: Context, Congress, and the Constitution - Baylor Law School, the W. R. Poage Legislative Library and the Institute for Oral History will host a panel discussion regarding the current impeachment process. The panel includes Rory Ryan, J.D., Baylor Law professor; Stephen Sloan, Ph.D, associate professor of history and director of the Institute of Oral History; and former U.S. Congressmen Alan Steelman and Chet Edwards. The panel discussion provides the opportunity to participate in a civil conversation about the impeachment process from an experiential, historical and constitutional perspective. Baylor Jazz Ensemble Concert - The Baylor University Jazz Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall, located within the Glennis McCrary Music Building, 110 Baylor Ave. The group of 18 student-musicians performs under the leadership of Alex Parker, senior lecturer in jazz studies and director of the Wayne Fisher Jazz Program. FRIDAY, Feb. 7

Waco Family & Faith Film Festival - The first Waco Family & Faith Film Festival will consist of screenings and associated events, including workshops, live music performances, community gatherings and “film and faith soul sessions,” and will be hosted at venues throughout the city and on Baylor’s campus. The two-day film festival will feature an international competition of 70 films and Hollywood studio movie releases presented at the Waco Hippodrome Theatre and other area venues.
