Baylor Students Step-Out Into Community March 28

Baylor University students will dedicate their time to community service on Saturday, March 28, as part of "Steppin' Out." More than 2,500 students are expected to participate. The event will begin at 8 a.m. and will last approximately four hours.
During this day of service, students will paint houses and churches, play with kids, help the elderly, clean up neighborhoods and participate in numerous other activities.
Tool pick-up will be held from 8-9 a.m. in front of the Bill Daniel Student Center. Those needing shovels, paint brushes, trash bags and other supplies will collect them before going to their assigned worksites.
Students will be sent to one of various locations throughout the Waco area. More than 60 organizations such as honor societies, fraternities and sororities, student associations and residence halls have signed up to participate. In addition, area youth groups and high school groups will be paired with Baylor groups for Steppin' Out activities.
As an extra incentive, students will gather when they have completed their work at the SUB Bowl for a "Celebration of Service." Area restaurants such as Outback Steakhouse, Ninfa's, Mazzio's and Taco Cabana will donate food.
This event is held once every semester and is currently in its 12th year. Since its inception in 1985, Steppin' Out has grown to be one of the largest university service programs in the nation and has served as a model for other universities' service projects.
"It's important because if you ask most Baylor students, they realize we're in a bubble," said Christina Massie, Steppin' Out public relations director. "It gives us a chance to branch out and promote Baylor to the community."
T-shirts will be on sale the week of Steppin' Out in the Fountain Mall.
