Baylor to Hold Annual Ring Ceremony March 18

March 11, 1998

The Baylor University Alumni Association will award class rings to seniors at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, in the Barfield Drawing Room during the official class ring presentation.
Baylor President Dr. Robert B. Sloan Jr. will present rings to approximately 100 seniors. Robert Reid, retired professor of history and Master Teacher at Baylor, will give a historical review of the ring emblems.
The Alumni Association began awarding an official university ring in 1995. Alan Bowden, special programs coordinator for the Alumni Association, said he hopes the ring ceremony encourages students to take pride in the university's traditions.
"We started this a few years ago and now seniors come in and ask about the ring presentation," Bowden said. "We really want to build this ceremony to something that seniors will always remember."
Ten historical figures emblazon the ring. The figures include Pat Neff Hall, Burleson Quadrangle, the statue of Judge R.E.B. Baylor and the memorial lampposts.
Balfour produces the rings for Baylor. Balfour makes rings for the for Dallas Cowboys, the University of Notre Dame and Texas A&M.
