Organ Carol Concert To Benefit Storybook Christmas

The Baylor University organ department, joined by voice majors, will present "Christmas Carols Around the World" at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, in the Powell Chapel at Truett Seminary.
The program will include organ settings of familiar Christmas carols, interspersed with vocalists singing oriental and other carols, a piano and organ selection, and an organ arrangement of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite. Other composers will include Bach, Dupré, Reger and Young. Vocal solos include two perennial favorites, Yon's "Gesù Bambino" and Adam's "O Holy Night."
The beautiful seminary organ has special features such as chimes, harp and celesta stops that will be used to advantage in the program.
"We chose Powell Chapel for this event because it is the perfect combination of a lovely stained glass window chapel and a wonderful organ with convenient parking in the adjacent garage and easy access for wheelchairs. We hope that people will come to enjoy an afternoon of beautiful music," said Dr. Joyce Jones, who is coordinating the event.
There is no admission charge, but any donations will be used to benefit Storybook Christmas, a project to provide a new book for every underprivileged child, from ages 3 through 9, in McLennan County. The Storybook Christmas goal this year is to give out 17,000 books.
