The Baylor University Concert Jazz Ensemble will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, in Roxy Grove Hall. This group of jazz musicians performs under the direction of Alex Parker, continuing lecturer in jazz studies.
The program will open -- appropriately enough -- with Don Schamber's "First Things First," followed by "Aim High" by Fred Sturm (a recent visitor to the Baylor campus) and Bob Florence's arrangement of "We'll Be Together Again."
Thomas Madeja, a graduate trumpet performance major, will conduct one of the pieces, a tune called simply "Us" by Thad Jones.
Following intermission, the Concert Jazz Ensemble will play Les Hooper's "Poppin' Fresh" and the Sammy Nestico arrangement of Louis Bellson's "Put It Right Here."
The program will close with Gordon Goodwin's arrangement of "São Paulo" by David Benoit and Nestico's arrangement of "Sweet Georgia Brown," which was a major hit by Ben Bernie, Maceo Pinkard and Kenneth Casey.
The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call the Baylor School of Music at (254) 710-3991.
