Christmas On Fifth Street To Light Up Baylor Holidays

Baylor University will usher in the holiday season on Thursday, Dec. 2, during Christmas on Fifth Street, sponsored by Place2BU and Kappa Omega Tau social fraternity. The evening activities begin at 7 p.m. at Fountain Mall on campus.
The event will begin with a performance from the Kappa Pickers, a sorority ensemble, and will be followed by a free concert from musician Matt Wertz. The 24-year-old has recorded three albums, which he says are natural outpourings of his heart. Originally from Kansas City, Wertz has been touring the nation for the past year and a half.
At 8 p.m. the 25-foot Christmas tree in the middle of Burleson Quadrangle will be lit by KOT and a history of the tree lighting will be read. The annual KOT Christmas Tree Lighting, a tradition on campus since 1965, invites students and the Baylor family to join in the Christmas spirit.
After the tree is lit Ed Cash will play his music. Cash, from Franklin, Tenn., has recorded four albums including one Christmas album, a collaboration with Bebo Norman and Allen Levi.
Throughout the night there will be a live nativity scene, free cookies and drinks, provided by residence halls and ARAMARK, and a carnival in the Bill Daniel Student Center den for children. Santa will at the carnival from 7:15 to 8 p.m. and 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. to take pictures.
