WACO, Texas (Sept. 19, 2019) — This week, Baylor University will host multiple lectures and seminars in religion, humanities and business, along with film screenings and a concert by Baylor Opera Theater. Baylor also will present two conferences, the African American Preaching Conference and the National McNair Research Conference.

SUNDAY, Sept. 22

Emergence: Art and the Incarnation of Space - Martin Museum of Art is hosting the “Emergence: Art and the Incarnation of Space” exhibit through Sunday, Oct. 6, in the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center, 60 Baylor Ave. The exhibit is free and open to the public. MONDAY, Sept. 23

- Movie Mondays presented by Baylor’s Union Board will continue this week with a showing of “The Biggest Little Farm,” John Chester’s documentary about his and his wife’s eight-year quest as they trade city life for life on a 200-acre farm. The screening will be at 7 p.m. at the Waco Hippodrome, 724 Austin Ave. Tickets are free and can be picked up at the Waco Hippodrome Box Office, the Bill Daniel Student Center ticket office or online on the Student Activities website.

Entrepreneurship and Innovation Speaker - Baylor’s Hankamer School of Business will host Justin Gentry, owner of The Purr-fect Paw, who will speak from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. in Room 118 in the Paul L. - Greg Scheer, composer, author, speaker and a music associate at the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship, will speak at 6 p.m. in Recital Hall II in Waco Hall, 624 Speight Ave. The Hearn Innovators Series is designed to bring innovators in the field of Christian music to Baylor’s campus for interaction between the guest and Baylor students. ISR David Brooks Conversation - The Baylor Institute for Studies of Religion (ISR) will host a conversation on “Roads and Mountains” with David Brooks, best-selling author and columnist with The New York Times, and Alan Jacobs, Ph.D., Distinguished Professor of Humanities in the Honors College and Distinguished Senior Fellow at ISR. African American Preaching Conference - For reflection on the 400th anniversary of slavery in North America, George W. Truett Theological Seminary will hold the African American Preaching Conference on "The Liberating Voice of the African-American Pulpit." The conference features sermons, speakers and choral praise from prominent African American preachers and speakers across the country, shaped by a steering committee of 30 African American leaders. The first day will consist of a sermon, plenary and breakout sessions and worship from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Truett Seminary, 1100 S. World Cinema Series - The department of modern languages and cultures will host its 13th annual World Cinema Series with “Quo vado?,” a film in Italian with English subtitles.
