Baylor Mourns Death Of Former Regent Dale Jones

Former Baylor University Regent Dale P. Jones, 68, of Dallas died Nov. 6 in a Houston hospital after complications from a head injury on Oct. 29.
Funeral services for Jones will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at Park Cities Baptist Church, 3933 Northwest Parkway in Dallas. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy. in Dallas.
Jones, a retired vice chairman of Halliburton Co., completed nearly a decade of service on the Baylor Board of Regents last May.
"Dale Jones was one of the most honorable regents to serve in Baylor's history," said Baylor President Robert B. Sloan Jr. "He brought great business experience to our board, an analytical mind and a heart deeply committed to the Christian faith. The Baylor community will miss him, and we extend our prayers and deepest sympathies to his family."
Jones was born in Gravette, Ark., on Oct. 19, 1936, to Ray and Alma Jones. He graduated from Mena High School, then went on to earn a bachelor of science in business administration degree from the University of Arkansas in 1958. He also attended the Harvard Advanced Management Program.
A former officer in the U.S. Air Force, Jones was named president of Halliburton Co. in 1989 and vice chairman in 1995. He retired from Halliburton in 1998. He was a member of the board of directors of Noble Energy Inc. and Telsco Industries.
Jones was a member of the boards of Baylor Health Care System, the Senior Citizens of Greater Dallas, and Choice Resources, and served in campaign leadership roles for the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. He was a member of Baylor's Sesquicentennial Council of 150 and served on the advisory board of Baylor's Hankamer School of Business. He was a deacon and trustee at Park Cities Baptist Church.
Jones is survived by his wife, Anita (BA '61); two daughters, Lee Anna Lackey (BS '90) and Leisa Winters (BSEd '92); and five grandchildren: Anna MacKenzie Winters, Maci Elizabeth Winters, Nathan Andrew Lackey, Jacob Collier Lackey and Luke Jones Lackey.
