Jerry Gordon In Faculty Recital Oct. 3

Tenor Jerry Gordon, associate professor of vocal studies at Baylor University, will present a faculty recital at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, in Recital Hall II. Joining him in the performance will be five other members of the School of Music faculty -- cellist Gary Hardie, pianist Andrew Hudson, harpsichordist Brian Marks, flutist Helen Ann Shanley and violist Kathryn Steely.
The program will open with Der harmonische Gottesdienst by German baroque composer Georg Philipp Telemann.
The scene will change to Victorian England with a set of four songs by romantic composer Maude Valérie White, followed by three songs from the first decade of the 20th century by the remarkable composer, conductor, violist and teacher, Frank Bridge.
French composer Charles-Marie Widor is best known for his works for organ, but he also wrote a fair number of songs. Gordon will sing mélodies from four of his vocal collections.
The program will close with a set of four songs by Francesco Paolo Tosti, an Italian singing master famous for his ubiquitous "Mattinata," who settled in London to serve the Royal Family and was knighted in 1908.
