Jazz Ensemble Opens Its Concert Season Oct. 7

The Baylor University Jazz Ensemble will present its first concert of 2004-2005 at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, in Jones Concert Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building. The talented, 21-member ensemble is led by Alex Parker, continuing lecturer in jazz studies.
The concert will open with a piece by Thad Jones called "Cherry Juice," followed by a work carrying the hopeful title of "The Cure for Cancer" by former Jazz Ensemble pianist Peter B. Emerson.
The program also will include a pair of tunes by Gordon Goodwin, "Count Bubba" and "Mueva los Huesos" (literally, "Shake Your Bones"), as well as Kenny Wheeler's "Gentle Piece" and Maria Schneider's "Hang Gliding."
The Jazz Ensemble will conclude with the Sammy Nestico arrangement of Bart Howard's popular standard "Fly Me to the Moon" and an arrangement by Bob Curnow of Pat Metheny's "See the World."
