by Richard Veit

Seven faculty members from the Baylor University School of Music will combine their considerable talents to present "An Evening of Chamber Music for Piano, Winds and Strings" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, in Roxy Grove Hall.
Associate Professor of Piano Jane Abbott-Kirk will be joined on stage by Professor of Oboe Doris DeLoach, Professor of Piano Richard Shanley, Associate Professor of Horn Jeffrey Powers and Assistant Professor of Bassoon Matthew Morris for a performance of Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Quintet in E-flat major, Op. 16. The Quintet dates from after Beethoven's period of study with Franz Joseph Haydn in Vienna. Completed in 1796 and published in 1801, it was dedicated to the composer's patron, Prince Schwarzenberg.
Faculty members also will perform the Piano Trio No. 1 in B major, Op. 8, by Johannes Brahms, as played by Abbott-Kirk, Professor of Violin Bruce Berg and Professor of Cello Gary Hardie. This was the first chamber music piece by Brahms, published in1854 when the composer was only 20. He thoroughly revised the trio several decades later in 1889.
The recital is free and open to the public. For more information, call the Baylor School of Music at (254) 710-3991.
