WACO, Texas (July 15, 2019) – As part of the I-35 Waco construction project, crews are updating drainage features along the corridor. To prepare for this work, traffic will be shifted from the I-35 northbound mainlanes to the southbound lanes from 4th Street to 18th Street for approximately two months, beginning July 16. Traffic will be reduced to two lanes in each direction during this time.

In addition, 8th Street exit (334B) will be closed temporarily as crews build a temporary exit ramp in a nearby location. Until the temporary ramp is open, you will need to use the 18th - 17th Streets exit (Exit 334) to access Baylor/downtown area on 8th Street and 5th - 4th Streets. The exit to University Parks Drive (335B) remains open.

Northbound frontage road traffic will remain on the existing lanes.

Please observe the speed limit through the area (now 55 MPH) and watch for the signs and traffic control equipment that will show you where the change begins.

Alternating lane closures on the northbound mainlanes will begin Tuesday, July 16, at 7 p.m., weather permitting, until all the traffic is switched to the southbound lanes.

Delays are expected to occur during this work. Plan your travel accordingly by visiting www.my35.org/Waco to view real-time traffic maps and sign up for lane closure notices via text or email.

Once work on the northbound mainlanes is complete, crews will shift all traffic to the northbound mainlanes, with traffic reduced to two lanes in each direction for approximately one year, weather permitting. This shift will allow crews to install drainage features and reconstruct the southbound mainlanes.
