State Of Texas Honors Mayborn Museum Complex For Outstanding Accommodations For Disabled

The State of Texas Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities presented Baylor University's Mayborn Natural Science and Cultural History Museum with an "Access for All" decal for the museum's outstanding compliance with Texas Accessibility Standards.
Pat Pound, executive director of the Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities, presented the decal during a ceremony Oct. 13 to Dr. Ellie Caston, director of the Mayborn Museum Complex, and Rick Creel, Baylor's associate vice president for operations and facilities. Pound, who is blind, brought her guide dog, Germaine, to the ceremony.
"We count it an honor to receive this award today," Creel said.
The Heart of Texas Workforce Center, members of the Waco Lake Brazos Rotary Club and Texas State Technical College Transportation Technologies Center also were recognized on Oct. 13. Other Waco businesses to receive this honor include Tony Roma's Restaurant, Dr. Amanda Trotter and the Waco Outdoor Aquatic Center.
The Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities aims to "further opportunities for people with disabilities to enjoy full and equal access to a life of independence, productivity and self-determination," according to a release from the Waco Mayor's Committee on People with Disabilities.
Facility accommodations for people with disabilities include easy access to parking, building entrances and restrooms.
"We care about everyone and want them to be welcome here," Caston said.
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, promoting accessibility of public businesses and facilities as well as recognizing people with disabilities as valuable contributors to the economy.
