Baylor Department of Psychology and Neuroscience Will Host Sharon Bischofshausen Lecture

WACO, Texas (March 20, 2019) – The Baylor University department of psychology and neuroscience will host the 2019 Sharon Bischofshausen Lecture featuring Amy Murrell, Ph.D., member of the clinical psychology faculty at the University of North Texas and author of “The Joy of Parenting.”

The lecture will be from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 22, in Room C.206 of the Baylor Sciences Building, 101 Bagby Ave.

Murrell will speak about acceptance and commitment therapy with children and families. She also will discuss her book, which focuses on how to help parents be their best and accept the challenges of parenting.

“This will be a great way to learn about how parents can build flexibility and mindfulness to help their children make important transitions and gracefully move through challenges they face,” said Christine Limbers, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology in the Baylor College of Arts & Sciences.

Limbers said Sharon Bischofshausen is a Baylor alumna and a clinical psychologist. She set up the endowed lecture series to allow the department of psychology and neuroscience to host a lecture series every other year focusing on child clinical psychology.

The lecture brings Baylor faculty, students and community supervisors together to learn more about evidence-based practices in clinical psychology from a nationally recognized expert, Limbers said. Previous lecturers have focused on parent-child interaction therapy and trust-based relational intervention.
