Expanded Edition Of Toward A Jewish Theology Of Liberation Published
An expanded edition of Dr. Marc Ellis' book, Toward a Jewish Theology of Liberation: The Challenge of the 21st Century, has been published by Baylor University Press. With a forward by Desmond Tutu and Gustavo Gutierrez, Ellis reflects anew on the future of Judaism and Israel and underscores the enduring problem of justice.
According to Rabbi Elliot N. Dorff, Rector and Distinguished Professor of Philosophy at the University of Judaism, Ellis masterfully uses the central, Jewish story of Exodus and Sinai to call for a contemporary Jewish (and Christian) theology of liberation. He argues against current political policies based on Jewish vulnerability, with the Holocaust as the chief lens, and issues a prophetic call for contemporary Jews to return to the liberation theology embedded in the Exodus, seeking justice for all.

Ellis is University Professor of American and Jewish Studies and Director of the Center for American and Jewish Studies at Baylor. He is the author or editor of more than 20 books, including, most recently, Practicing Exile (2003) and, with Baylor University Press, A Year at the Catholic Worker (2000) and Revolutionary Forgiveness (2000).
