Baylor Presents Famous Strauss Opera

Baylor Opera Theatre will stage four performances of the operetta "Die Fledermaus" by Johann Strauss in its annual production. Curtain times are 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, Friday, January 30, and Saturday, January 31. There also will be a matinée performance at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, February 1. All performances will take place in the Jesse H. Jones Theatre of the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Center on the Baylor University campus.
The director of Baylor Opera Theatre is Richard Aslanian, and the performances will be conducted by J. Christopher Buddo, assistant professor of double bass and conducting.
"Die Fledermaus" was composed by Johann Strauss Jr., in 1874 and premiered on April 5 of that year in Vienna. It was an immediate success and remains to this day one of the most popular operettas in the world.
Tickets for all four performances of "Die Fledermaus" are now on sale at the theater department box office. They are priced at $8.00, but there will be a $2.00 discount for Baylor faculty, staff, and students with a Baylor I.D. card.
