Speech Therapy Conference Set For Jan. 23

January 22, 1998

Baylor University's department of communication sciences and disorders will sponsor a conference in which a nationally-known speech therapist will discuss patient assessments.
Dr. Wayne Secord, professor and chair of the department of communication disorders at Northern Arizona University, will serve as keynote speaker at the conference. Renowned for his work in speech therapy, Secord is a Fellow in the American Speech and Hearing Association and has authored numerous books and articles on speech assessments.
He will lecture on intervention-based assessment of articulation and phonology. He also will lead a workshop on the use of an assessment test that determines if a child who has been in speech therapy is ready to be dismissed. Conference participants will be provided a copy of the assessment test to take home with them.
The conference will run Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Waco Convention Center. More than 200 area speech therapists and students are expected to attend.
