WACO, Texas (Feb. 4, 2019) – Baylor University will host the second annual Largent Lecture featuring museum leaders and authors Joan Baldwin and Anne W. Ackerson at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the Mayborn Museum Complex, 1300 S. University Parks Drive.

Baldwin and Ackerson will lecture on “Museum Leadership and Gender.” They are co-authors of Women in the Museum: Lessons from the Workplace and Leadership Matters. Leadership Matters explains history museum leadership for the 21st century and continues to evolve as a blog on the subject.

“We are excited to host these two thought leaders during our second annual Largent Lecture because it will shine a bright light on the importance of women in the museum profession,” said Kenneth Hafertepe, Ph.D., chair and professor in the department of museum studies. “Their blog on museum leadership is one of the most insightful considerations of leadership and gender today.”

Ackerson served as director of several historic house museums and historical societies in central and eastern New York, director of the Museum Association of New York and executive director of the National Council of State Archivists. She works as an independent consultant and focuses on governance issues and organizational development and planning for the smaller, nonprofit and cultural institutions.

Baldwin has been a museum director, program analyst for the New York State Council on the Arts and program director for the Museum Association of the State of New York. She works as the Curator of Special Collections at The Hotchkiss School.

Ackerson and Baldwin speak frequently at the American Alliance of Museums annual meetings and at regional museum association meetings. Last fall, they co-presented at a half-day leadership forum at the American Association for State and Local History. They co-teach a course on leadership in museum studies program at Johns Hopkins University and are co-founders of the Gender Equity in Museums Movement.

The lecture will be in Room 1701 of the Administrative and Academic Wing of the museum and is free and open to the public. For more information, visit the Mayborn Museum website.
