Baylor Theatre To Perform Award-Winning Historical Play

Baylor Theatre will present Helen Edmundson's award-winning play "The Clearing" beginning Tuesday, Sept. 21, at the Mabee Theatre in Hooper Schaefer Fine Arts Building on the Baylor University campus.
The performance, directed by Chris Cragin Day, is a Master's Thesis Production. While Day has directed many plays, she is particularly excited about "The Clearing."
"This is the pinnacle of my experience at Baylor," Day said. "While it's set in a unique time period, the truths presented in the play are universal."
The historical play, set in 17th century Ireland, is the story of one couple's hardships in the midst of Oliver Cromwell's persecution. English landowner Robert Preston and his Irish wife, Madeleine, are forced to look beyond their own passionate marriage and confront the political turmoil facing their countrymen.
Jenny Ledel will play Madeleine; John Michael Marrs will play Robert; and Stephanie Browning will play the role of Maleleine's friend Killaine. Other students in the cast include Lincoln Thompson, Austin Terrell, Cathy Englade, Tyler Johnson, Daniel Jamieson, Jonathan Williams and Jonathan Walton.
The play will be at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 21-25 and at 2 p.m. Sept. 2. Tickets are available at the Theatre Box Office. They are $10 for the general public and $8 with a student ID presented at the window.
