Baylor Hosts Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Service

Baylor University's Association of Black Students (ABS) will host a memorial service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, in Miller Chapel. According to Kquinta McKenzie, Martin Luther King Committee chairperson for the ABS, more than 200 Baylor students, faculty and staff and community leaders are expected to attend. This year's theme is, "Celebrating the Dreamer."
The service will begin with a candlelight unity walk from the Bill Daniel Student Center to Miller Chapel which is located inside the Tidwell Bible Building. Those interested in participating should meet in front of the Bill Daniel Student Center at 6:45 p.m. Once inside Miller Chapel, participants will be treated to musical and dramatic presentations and a special guest speaker. In the event of inclement weather participants should go directly to Miller Chapel.
Special music will be provided by Mrs. Cherry Boggess, coordinator of support service at Texas State Technical College, and Baylor's Heavenly Voices Gospel Choir. Students will perform dramatic interpretations in honor of Dr. King.
The memorial service is free and open to the public. The ABS urges all Baylor organizations to send representatives of their organization to the service.
Since 1982, the Association of Black Students has raised awareness of African American culture on the Baylor campus. This year's membership totals 54.
