Violinist Bruce Berg To Perform Violin Recital Jan. 17

January 7, 1998

by Richard Veit

Bruce Berg, associate professor of violin at Baylor University, will present a recital of the "Three Partitas for Solo Violin" by Johann Sebastian Bach at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, in the Armstrong Browning Library.
These towering partitas, written by Bach at Cöthen, Germany, in 1720, are considered to be among the finest pieces ever composed for unaccompanied violin. They are filled with technical challenges that attempt to produce two, three, or even four voices-simultaneously-on a single instrument.
Berg is an acknowledged authority in the field of early music performance. He has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician in the United States, Europe, South America and China. He currently serves as concertmaster of the Waco Symphony Orchestra.
The recital, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Armstrong Browning Library in collaboration with the Baylor School of Music. For more information, call 710-3991
