The Concert Orchestra, Baylor University's 23-member chamber ensemble for strings and woodwinds, will perform its annual fall concert at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, in Jones Concert Hall.
The concert, which includes music by Arcangelo Corelli, Paul Hindemith, Henry Cowell and Peter Warlock, will be conducted by Stephen Heyde, Baylor's Mary Franks Thompson Professor of Orchestral Studies and Conductor-in-Residence.
The program will open with Corelli's Concerto Grosso in C minor, Op. 6, No. 3. Featured student soloists will be violinists Chris Jones and Laura Tapper and cellist Emily Miller.
Next, the Concert Orchestra will play two of Hindemith's Five Pieces for String Orchestra.
Cowell's Air and Scherzo will feature alto saxophone soloist Michael Jacobson, associate professor of saxophone at Baylor.
Concluding the program will be the Warlock Suite, a set of dances by Philip Heseltine, who wrote under the pseudonym of Peter Warlock. This suite consists of four dances: Pavane, Bass-danse, Pieds-en-l'air and Mattachins.
