Art Exhibit Features Works of Well-Known Illustrators

An exhibit featuring the illustrations of Mark and John English will open Tuesday, Nov. 11, in the University Art Gallery at the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Building on the Baylor University campus. The show runs through Dec. 12.
The father and son artists are extremely well known in the United States, according to Paul McCoy, associate professor of art and director of the University Art Gallery. Mark, the elder English who has been a leading illustrator for three decades, has had his illustrations published in such magazines as Sports Illustrated, Atlantic Monthly, Rolling Stone and Redbook, while son John's illustrations have appeared in Newsweek, Esquire and other magazines. John also has illustrated for Penguin Books, 7-Up and Sprint.
The Baylor exhibit will feature 16 works from each artist. Mark's works are comprised of pastel drawings and paintings whereas John's works will consist of oil paintings. Subject matter of the illustrations ranges from portraits and landscapes to surrealistic images.
"This is an exciting group of images," said McCoy. "Those viewing the illustrations will be impressed with the range of subject matter and the technical accomplishment of the artists."
The University Art Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. There is no admission charge.
