Williamson to Receive Award Nov. 11 at State Education Conference

Dr. James L. Williamson, acting dean of Baylor University's School of Education and The Fred Hale Professor of Education, will receive the George H. Brownlee Award for Outstanding Educational Leadership at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the Texas Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) 1997 Annual Fall Conference. The conference will be held at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.
Williamson received his bachelor's degree from Baylor and his master's and doctorate in education from the University of North Texas, where he was named an outstanding alumnus in 1985. He has served as deputy director of Region XI Education Service Center in Fort Worth, professor and education department head at the University of Texas-Pan American and professor and dean of the College of Education at Texas A&M-Commerce. He began teaching at Baylor in 1990.
In addition to being past president of the Texas Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, Williamson served on the National Board of Directors for ASCD and has also been a national board member of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE). He is also past president of the Texas Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. He is a frequent presenter at state, national and international conferences, and in June of this year, he received a Fulbright Study Abroad grant and led a group of scholars to China.
The Brownlee award "recognizes and honors a Texas ASCD member who has performed instructional, supervisory and curricular duties and responsibilities consistent with the purpose of the organization in an exemplary manner."
