Dean Jackson to Receive Bobby Jones Award Nov. 1

Dean Jackson, a former linebacker for the Baylor University football team, will receive the 1997 Bobby Jones Award before the 1 p.m. kickoff of the Baylor vs. Texas football game on Saturday, Nov. 1, at Floyd Casey Stadium.
In the 1996 football season, Jackson was the leading defensive player for the Bears with 114 tackles. A neck injury last season ended his career, but Jackson, a senior from Groveton, is currently pursuing his degree in business .
The Bobby Jones Award, which is presented before each Baylor Homecoming game, is given to a senior player from the previous year who provided the best leadership on and off the field in the week of preparation for the Homecoming game. The Baylor coaching staff selects the award recipient.
The award was named for the Baylor quarterback who led the Bears to a 13-7 defeat of the University of Tennessee in the 1957 Sugar Bowl. It was established by his widow, Mrs. Rosemary Jones, after Jones' death. He was killed in a 1965 automobile-train wreck while a member of the Tennessee coaching staff.
