Lyceum Series to Present Kenneth Grant Oct. 30

The School of Music's Lyceum Series will bring clarinetist Kenneth Grant to the Baylor campus on Wednesday, Oct. 29, and Thursday, Oct. 30, for four master classes and a recital. Grant, who is professor of clarinet at the Eastman School of Music, also serves as principal clarinetist with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.
The recital at 8 p.m. Thursday in Meadows Recital Hall will feature music by Francis Poulenc, Felix Mendelssohn, Johann Sebastian Bach and Carl Maria von Weber.
Poulenc's Clarinet Sonata will open the program, followed in turn by Mendelssohn's Concert Piece No. 2, the Stanley Hasty arrangement of Bach's Chromatic Fantasy (originally for harpsichord), and Weber's Grand Duo Concertant.
Assisting Kenneth Grant will be two members of the Baylor music faculty: John Cozza, assistant professor of piano and coordinator of accompanying, and Richard Shanley, professor of clarinet and coordinator of woodwinds. Two graduate piano students, Russell Reed and Li Zhe, also will take part in the performance.
The first pair of master classes will be presented at 4 p.m. Wednesday, in Room 139 of the Glennis McCrary Music Building and at 7 p.m. in Meadows Recital Hall. Thursday's master classes will be at 9 a.m. in Meadows Recital Hall and at 4 p.m. in Room 131 of the Glennis McCrary Music Building.
The Lyceum Series is funded annually through the generosity of the Meadows Foundation of Dallas. All events are free and open to the public.
