Parrish Lectures in American Studies Scheduled for Oct. 27-28

The Emmy Parrish Lectures in American Studies will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, and at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, in the Meadows Recital Hall on the Baylor University campus. Both lectures will be on renowned Southern novelist William Faulkner.
Dr. Noel Polk, professor of English at the University of Southern Mississippi, will be the featured speaker at the lectures. An acknowledged expert on William Faulkner, Polk received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Mississippi College and his doctorate from the University of South Carolina.
Polk is the author of several books on Faulkner's works including An Editorial Handbook for Faulkner's "The Sound and the Fury;" Children of the Dark House: Text and Context in Faulkner and Reading Faulkner: The Sound and the Fury. Polk also has served as editor for several reprints of Faulkner's novels.
Polk will speak on "Faulkner and Mississippi" at the 7 p.m. lecture and on "Sutpen and McCaslin: Faulkner and American History" at the 3:30 p.m. lecture.
The Emmy Parrish Lectures in American Studies fund was established in 1991 by Tom Z. Parrish of Waco to honor his wife, Emmy. This fund and the lecture series it supports also recognizes the long friendship and mutual respect between Mr. Parrish, and the late E. Hudson Long, Distinguished Professor of English at Baylor, whose life of scholarship inspired identification of the lecture series with the American Studies Program at Baylor.
