WACO, Texas (Feb. 16, 2018) – Niko Pfund, president and global academic publisher at Oxford University Press (OUP), will visit Baylor University Feb. 19-20 as part of an effort with Baylor University Press to help develop the publishing capabilities of Baylor’s faculty and graduate students, as well as encourage Baylor students to pursue careers in the publishing industry.

“Niko Pfund represents world-class publishing of the highest caliber. Baylor University Press is pleased to bring him to Baylor’s campus,” said Carey Newman, Ph.D., director of Baylor University Press. “While here, he will help interested students explore careers in publishing, and faculty and graduate students advance their own agendas for getting research published.”

While visiting Baylor, Pfund will participate in several seminars for students and faculty. At 2:30 p.m. Feb. 19 in Castellaw Communications Center, Room 245, 201 Baylor Ave., Pfund will participate in a public lecture to undergraduate students.

“Any student who has ever considered a career in writing or publishing is invited to attend Mr. Pfund’s lecture,” Newman said.

Baylor University Press has invited more than 30 Baylor faculty members published by Oxford University Press to a reception at Cultivate 7Twelve, 712 Austin Ave.

Pfund graduated from Amherst College with a bachelor’s degree in English and formerly served as the director and editor-in-chief of New York University Press. He serves on the boards of Digital Public Library of America, the Common literary magazine and other organizations, and he also speaks widely on issues related to publishing and scholarly communication. At OUP, Pfund currently serves as president of one of the premier and largest academic publishing houses in the world.
