WACO, Texas (Nov. 10, 2017) — This week at Baylor, students will have a wide variety of events to choose from as they prepare for Thanksgiving Break.

SUNDAY, Nov. 12

Disaster Relief Benefit Concert — The flute studio from the Baylor University School of Music will join the flute studio from The University of Texas at Austin to present a collaborative benefit concert to support those affected by recent natural disasters. The event will be from 4 to 5 p.m. at Seventh and James Baptist Church, 602 James Ave. For more information, visit the School of Music website.

MONDAY, Nov. 13

40th Annual Edmondson Lectures in History — The 2017 Charles Edmondson Historical Lecture will be delivered by Ethan H. Shagan, Ph.D., professor of history at the University of California, Berkeley. He will speak twice on “The Problems of Belief in Early Modern England.” He will deliver his first lecture titled “How Belief Became Hard,” at 3:30 p.m. in Kayser Auditorium of Hankamer School of Business, 1621 S. Third St. He will give his second lecture titled “How Belief Became Free,” at 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 14 in Kayser Auditorium of Hankamer School of Business. Baylor Campus Orchestra presents “Prestos, Preludes, Paris, and Puzzles.” — The Baylor University Campus Orchestra will present its annual fall concert at 6 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall in Glennis McCrary Music Building, 110 Baylor Ave. This concert is free and open to the public. Movie Mondays at the Hippodrome — The Waco Hippodrome will screen “A Simpler Way: Crisis as Opportunity,” a documentary that follows a community in Australia who came together to explore and demonstrate a simpler way to live in response to global crises. The Role of Religion in Electoral Politics in Ghana and America — Baylor’s Institute for Studies of Religion will present Richard Asante, Ph.D., senior research fellow and lecturer in the Institute of African American Studies, University of Ghana, Legon. Asante will lecture about the role of religion in electoral politics in Ghana and America during the 2016 elections from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in Cox Lecture Hall of Armstrong Browning Library, 710 Speight Ave.

Baylor Jazz Ensemble — The Baylor University Jazz Ensemble will present a concert in honor of its benefactor, Houston attorney Wayne Fisher, at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall in Glennis McCrary Music Building, 110 Baylor Ave. This event is free and open to the public. T.B. Maston Foundation Lectureship in Christian Ethics — This year’s T.B. Maston Foundation Lectureship in Christian Ethics at Baylor will be presented by Brian Brock, Ph.D., reader in Moral and Practical Theology at The University of Aberdeen, Scotland, in Paul W. The exhibition will remain until Nov 21.

FRIDAY, Nov. 17

Black Alumni Network Dinner — Baylor’s Black Alumni Network will host a dinner honoring the first African-American accomplishments at Baylor from 6 to 9 p.m. in Barfield Drawing Room of the Bill Daniel Student Center, 1311 S. Fifth Street. Student admission is free and tickets can be purchased online.

Fall Festival — The Baylor Family is invited to fellowship, food and fun at the All-University Thanksgiving Dinner & Fall Festival on Fountain Mall from 5 to 8 p.m. In case of rain, the All-University Thanksgiving Dinner will be held at both Penland and East Village, while the Fall Festival will be moved inside at Penland.
