Literacy Missions Center to Host Training Workshop

The Baylor University Literacy Missions Center will host a conversational English workshop on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26-27, in the Bobo Baptist Student Center on the Baylor campus.
The workshop will train literacy missions volunteers how to teach people to read and write English. Maurine Frost, director of the Baylor Literacy Center, said the workshop can help church leaders who want to establish literacy outreaches to their communities, missionaries who teach English as a second language in other countries and English tutors for various educational institutions.
The presentations of the two-day workshop will include methods of teaching, making lesson plans, the dos and don'ts of teaching English and how to find literacy resources. The workshop also will instruct churches on how to establish a literacy outreach.
Frost said people who teach English to those who cannot read or speak the language experience a great deal of fulfillment.
"One of the biggest benefits of teaching English is the friendships that are formed," Frost said.
The conference costs $25 for an individual and $30 for a couple. The Friday, Sept. 26, session will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 8 p.m. The workshop will begin Saturday, Sept. 27, at 8:30 a.m. and end at 5:30 p.m. To register or for more information, contact Frost at 710-3854.
