WACO, Texas (Oct. 31, 2017) – Baylor University’s departments of art and philosophy will present “Art & Ideas: Talking and Thinking about Art” at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, in Hooper-Shaefer Fine Arts Center Auditorium, Room 149, 60 Baylor Ave.

The event will feature a conversation between two renowned art experts. The first, Michael Auping, recently retired from his 24-year-long position as the chief curator of the Modern Museum of Art in Fort Worth, Texas.

Auping was a member of the team that managed the capital campaign and building project that resulted in the Modern Art Museum’s Tadao Ando building. He is working on two books to be released in December.

Joining Auping will be John Haldane, Ph.D., philosopher and art commentator. Haldane is The J. Newton Rayzor Sr. Distinguished Professor of Philosophy at Baylor and a professor of moral philosophy at the University of St Andrews in Scotland.

Haldane has been a regular contributor to publications, including The Burlington Magazine, Modern Painters, Tate and Art Monthly. In 2016, he was named one of the 50 most influential living philosophers by the Best Schools, an independent organization composed of educators, editors, authors and web professionals.

A reception for attendees will follow the conversation. The event is free and open to the public.
