WACO, Texas (Oct. 27, 2017) – Baylor University will host the fall 2017 conference of the Big 12 Chief Academic Officers, who will be on campus Oct. 29-30 to discuss several topics related to the academic enterprise.

Michael K. McLendon, Ph.D., interim provost and The Fred and Edith Hale Endowed Professor of Higher Education Policy and Leadership at Baylor, will welcome the academic leadership from the University of Oklahoma, Texas Tech University, University of Kansas, West Virginia University and Texas Christian University.

The academic leaders will gather for a dinner and discussion on Sunday, followed by a conference Monday at the Paul L. Foster Campus for Business and Innovation. They will attend a breakfast with Baylor President Linda A. Livingstone and then begin a full day of discussions on academic strategic planning, enhancing professional education and expanding faculty diversity.

The conference also will include a tour of the Baylor Research and Innovation Collaborative (BRIC) and a lunch presentation on Baylor’s Academy for Teaching and Learning.

The BRIC provides researchers, organizations and private companies with 330,000 square feet of physical space for labs, research centers, industry collaborative space and workforce training and places many of Baylor’s most accomplished scientists and engineers in a uniquely collaborative environment, rich in resources and primed for incisive innovation in quantum physics, cosmology, and mechanical, electrical and computer engineering.

The BRIC adds another practical dimension to discovery by bringing these and other highly sought support resources within easy grasp of entrepreneurs, businesses and industries whose very survival depends on timely innovation.
