Baylor Ranked in Top 10 of Best College Values by U.S. News

WACO, Texas - Baylor University is ranked 10th among national universities and colleges in the U.S. News and World Report 1998 "Best College Values-Efficiency" listing and 46th as a best value school based on discounted tuition or the amount a student actually pays after receiving grants based on need. The rankings appear in the Sept. 8 issue of the magazine.
The best value rankings are based on the quality of the school as reported in the magazine's "America's Best Colleges" survey divided by the costs to the average student receiving a grant; the percent of all undergraduates who receive grants; and the percent of a university's total costs covered by the average need-based grant. Best value schools which most effectively utilize their resources are ranked as most efficient.
Only schools that finished in the top half of U.S. News quality rankings of national universities and liberal arts colleges were considered potential best values.
"Baylor's top 10 efficiency ranking reflects the university's diligence in offering students a high-quality education while keeping our costs relatively low," said Baylor President Robert B. Sloan Jr. "It's really a tribute to the hard work of our faculty and staff. They ensure that our resources are used wisely."
Baylor and the University of Texas at Austin were the only Texas schools to make the top 10 most efficient list. Rice University, Texas Christian University and Texas A&M University, in addition to Baylor, also were listed on the best value-discount list
