WACO, Texas - Baylor University has been recognized by Success magazine as one of the nation's top 25 business schools for entrepreneurs. The survey appears in the September issue of the magazine.
This is the third year running that the John F. Baugh Center for Entrepreneurship at Baylor's Hankamer School of Business has been ranked in the magazine's list. Success points out that the program focus at Baylor offers "a concentration/cluster in entrepreneurship" that blends research, theory and practice. The publication notes that the program "links students to global entrepreneurial activities."
Business schools across the country were considered for the list, which the magazine headlines on its cover as "The Top 25 Business Schools." The judges based their selection on overall quality, longevity, programs, resources and community outreach of the entrepreneurship programs. Entrepreneurial courses were introduced at Baylor in 1977.
Faculty qualifications and student support were also taken into account, along with the "depth and breadth" of the curriculum, the students' "hands on" entrepreneurial experience, and the caliber of the students attending the school.
Success cites Dr. Nancy Upton as the "contact" at the Baugh Center in its listing. Upton said the magazine's continued recognition of the entrepreneurship program at Baylor is due to the work of a "talented group of faculty, staff and students." She added, "We are very pleased to be once again honored by Success magazine as a top program. Maintaining excellence is truly a team effort."
A member of the Baylor faculty since 1983, Upton has directed the Baugh Center for many years and is recognized as a leading authority in the field of entrepreneurship and family business She has received numerous accolades for her innovative projects and research. She holds the Ben H. Williams Professorship in Entrepreneurship and provides leadership to the Entrepreneurial Studies Program in the Hankamer School of Business.
This is the second major honor received in recent months by the Hankamer School of Business for the quality of its entrepreneurship programs. The Baugh Center for Entrepreneurship also was recently ranked fifth in the nation in an on-line survey of top business school entrepreneurship programs by U.S. News and World Report.
Baylor was one of the first universities in America to offer a major in entrepreneurship. The school launched its entrepreneurship center nearly 20 years ago - among the first of its kind in the nation.
