Baylor to Host Accounting and Business Careers Conferences

July 7, 1997

Baylor University will host two Accounting and Business Conferences for incoming freshmen from July 13-16 and July 20-23.
According to Dr. Mike Cassell, associate professor of accounting and conference coordinator, approximately 42 students from various states, mostly Texas, will attend the conferences. Students attending are high school seniors who have expressed interest in business and accounting majors at Baylor.
Baylor faculty volunteers will teach class and lab sessions in the Hankamer School of Business. Learning experiences will include computer and Web page building topics, verbal, written and math skills practice and selected business school topics such as statistics and taxation.
Various off-campus trips are planned. On Monday and Wednesday of each camp, students will be given the chance to visit local sites such as the Dr Pepper Museum and Free Enterprise Institute and Fab-Knit, which owns the rights to Reebok team uniforms in the United States and Canada. On the Tuesday of each camp, students will travel to Dallas and Arlington for a day to tour The Ballpark, the home of the Texas Rangers, and will learn of the business side to that facility. While in Dallas, the students will visit the Federal Reserve, the Rosewood Corp. and Ernst and Young, one of six major accounting firms in the U.S.
The cost for the conference is covered by the business school.
