Madden Named Chair-Elect of American Marketing Association

WACO, Texas - Dr. Charles S. (Stan) Madden, vice president for university marketing and the Ben H. Williams Professor of Marketing at Baylor University, has been elected chair-elect of the board of the American Marketing Association (AMA). Madden, the first Texan to hold the chair-elect position in more than a decade, will preside over the 50,000-member organization in 1998-1999. The 60-year-old, Chicago-based AMA is the world's largest professional society for marketers and is made up of academicians and practitioners.
"I have been a member of the AMA since 1967 when I joined as a student," said Madden. "It has nurtured my professional career, and I am proud to serve over the next two years in a leadership capacity. I'm glad they let college professors have a turn at this."
A native of Franklinton, La., Madden holds degrees from Southeastern Louisiana University and the University of Alabama. He received his doctorate in business administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Madden joined the Baylor faculty in 1983 as chairman of the Department of Marketing and later served as associate dean for Graduate Programs in the Hankamer School of Business. He was named vice president for university marketing in 1996. Prior to coming to Baylor, he served on the faculties of Creighton University, Missouri Western State College and Texas A&M University.
Active in numerous academic organizations, Madden has served as president of the Academic Council for the AMA as well as vice president for finance and board member for the association. Additionally, he is former president of the Southern Marketing Association and program chair for the American Academy of Advertising.
Madden has served as a visiting professor at the Helsinki School of Economics in Helsinki, Finland; Russian American University in St. Petersburg, Russia; and the University of Adelaide in South Australia. A prolific writer, he is the author of more than 50 articles in scholarly journals and is a frequent guest editor of the Journal of Business Research.
He and his wife, Mary, have two children, Christopher, a 1995 Baylor graduate, and Elissa, a current Baylor student
