WACO, Texas (Feb. 21, 2017) – Family Science Night, the first event of its kind in the Waco community, was developed through a partnership with Baylor University’s Mayborn Museum Complex and Prosper Waco. The event is designed to encourage family engagement at underperforming elementary schools.

The Mayborn Museum is offering two Family Science Nights this spring:

• Feb. 23, 2017 – Brook Avenue and West Avenue Elementary Schools will return with their families to the Mayborn for a fun evening of informal learning.
• March 2, 2017 – Students from Rapoport Academy Elementary are welcomed for their first Family Science Night.

“Family engagement is essential in the education system and something that we provide to the public on a daily basis,” said Anna McKay, museum engagement coordinator of Baylor University’s Mayborn Museum Complex. “Our main goal for Family Science Nights is to educate parents and guardians about informal learning opportunities that surround us every day.”

Almost 350 participants attended the first Family Science Night held at the Mayborn Museum on Oct. 20, 2016. Students of Brook Avenue and West Avenue Elementary Schools were able to attend the museum with their families to engage in science-based, hands-on activities.
