Baylor Theater Presents 'The Batting Cage' June 12-14

The Baylor University Department of Theater Arts will present the comedy The Batting Cage at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, June 12-13, and at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14, in Theater 11 in the Hooper-Schaefer Fine Arts Building on the Baylor campus.
Written by Joan Ackerman and directed by Baylor graduate student Eric Shephard, The Batting Cage focuses on the misadventures of sisters on a trip to St. Augustine, Fla. Originally there to scatter the ashes of their deceased sister, the siblings find that their trip has gone awry when the ashes are lost by an airline. The sisters must make the best of a situation which includes tourist attractions, sunburn and, finally, a revelation in a batting cage.
"This is a broadly comic play; it is very funny," said Shephard. "I saw it as a new play in Louisville, Ky., and it really stuck with me, maybe because of the baseball angle in it. I love baseball. The play was interesting to me and is really very touching and warm."
The principal roles of the sisters are portrayed by Summerlee Staten, a junior from Dallas, and Lindsay Sweeney, a sophomore from Houston.
Tickets for the play are $3 and may be purchased from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hooper-Schaefer box office.
