WACO, Texas (Feb. 3, 2017) – This week, Baylor University will host several notable speakers, lectures, concerts and events, including a music forum with worship leader Zac Hicks, a concert by the Baylor Wind Ensemble and various film and digital media panels and discussions featuring successful screenwriters and producers.
SUNDAY, Feb. 5
Confluence of Earth & Mind Sculpture Exhibition – The Martin Museum of Art hosts the Confluence of Earth & Mind Sculpture Exhibition, 60 Baylor Ave. Confluence brings together the work of two Texan sculptors, Sherry Owens and Sharon Kopriva. MONDAY, Feb. 6
Chapel Highlights – Suzanne and Joe Stabile, founders of Life in the Trinity Ministries, will speak in Chapel at 9:05, 10:10 and 11:15 a.m. Suzanne Stabile is an Enneagram teacher, and Joe Stabile is the associate pastor at Highland Park United Methodist Church in Dallas. Church Music Forum with Zac Hicks – The Church Music Forum will host worship leader Zac Hicks at 6 p.m. in Recital Hall II, located adjacent to Waco Hall, 624 Speight Ave. Hicks is a songwriter and has recorded seven albums. This Hearn Innovators in Christian Music Series event is free and open to the public.
Movie Mondays at the Hippodrome – In partnership with the Waco Hippodrome, Baylor Student Activities will show “Cameraperson” at 7 p.m. at the Hippodrome, 724 Austin Ave. Tickets are free and can be picked up at the Bill Daniel Student Center Ticket Office or online. Wind Ensemble – The Baylor Wind Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Jones Concert Hall in the Glennis McCrary Music Building, 110 Baylor Ave. Composer and saxophonist Patrick Lenz, winner of the 2016 Baylor Composition Contest, will be the guest artist. This concert is free and open to the public.
TUESDAY, Feb. 7

WEDNESDAY, Feb. 8
Chapel Highlights – Zac Hicks will visit Chapel at 9:05, 10:10 and 11:15 a.m. Hicks is the canon for worship and liturgy at the Cathedral Church of the Advent in Birmingham, Alabama, and is the author of The Worship Pastor. CASPER Seminar Series – Dave Dooling, education director of the New Mexico Museum of Space History, will host a seminar as part of the Center for Astrophysics, Space Physics & Engineering Research (CASPER) Seminar Series at 1 p.m. in Room 3160 of the Baylor Research and Innovation Collaborative (BRIC), 100 Research Parkway. THURSDAY, Feb. 9
Free Enterprise at the Baugh Center: Christian Hoehner – The Baugh Center and Baylor in Washington will host Christian Hoehner at noon in Room 211 of the Foster Campus for Business and Innovation, 1621 S. Third St. Hoehner is policy director of the Data Coalition, which advocates for the publication of government information as standardized, machine-readable data.
Film and Digital Media Writers’ Workshop – Screenwriter Kyle Ward will lead a writers workshop focused on the writing process and navigating the world of film and television at 5 p.m. in Room 138 of Castellaw Communication Center, 219 Baylor Ave. Writer/producer Zack Andrews and producer/executive Jason Seagraves will also participate.
Hacksaw Ridge Screening and Q&A – The Department of Film and Digital Media will host a screening of the Oscar-nominated film Hacksaw Ridge, followed by a Q&A with the film’s co-producer and Cross Creek Pictures executive Jason Seagraves, at 7 p.m. in Room 101 of Castellaw Communication Center, 219 Baylor Ave.
Science Thursdays at the Mayborn – Robert Doyle, Ph.D., professor of biology and director of the Center for Reservoir and Aquatic Systems Research at Baylor University, will lecture on “Will the Wetlands Save the Lake?” at 7 p.m. at the Mayborn Museum Complex, 1300 S. University Parks Drive. This lecture is part of Science Thursdays at the Mayborn, a series of hour-long talks sponsored by the Department of Physics. This lecture is free and open to the public but does not include museum admission.
FRIDAY, Feb. 10
Prosper Waco Lectures: Financial Security – Gary Carini, Ph.D., professor of management and associate dean in the Hankamer School of Business, will introduce the Prison Entrepreneurship Program (PEP) at 11:30 a.m. in the Mayborn Museum Complex, 1300 S. University Parks Drive. Registration for the course is $12. Although the deadline for registering has already passed, there are two more Prosper Waco Lectures on March 24 and April 21. Biology Research Seminar – Sarah Dunlap, Ph.D., director of clinical operations at Luminex Corporation, will lecture on “Ph.D. Lessons: How I Transitioned from Academia to Industry” at 2:30 p.m. in Room D109 of the Baylor Sciences Building, 101 Bagby Ave.
Hollywood Creatives Panel – The Department of Film and Digital Media will host a panel with screenwriter Kyle Ward, writer/producer Zack Andrews and producer/executive Jason Seagraves at 4 p.m. in Room 101 of Castellaw Communication Center, 219 Baylor Ave. This panel will focus on how to develop careers in film and television, the state of the industry and more.
Refugee Relief Benefit – After Midnight, a band composed of Baylor faculty members, will perform at a refugee relief dance and silent auction at 7 p.m. at Lake Shore Baptist Church, 5801 Bishop Drive. All proceeds go to the International Rescue Committee, which provides aid to refugees in the U.S. and worldwide. Suggested donation is $10.
John Wick: Chapter 2 Q&A – After a 7:15 p.m. screening of John Wick: Chapter 2 at the AMC Starplex in Waco, the Department of Film and Digital Media will host a Q&A with Kyle Ward, who was on the production in New York during the shooting of the film, at 9:45 p.m. in the Castellaw Communication Center Lounge, 219 Baylor Ave.
Medical Humanities Annual Retreat – The Baylor Alumni Network will host its annual two-day Medical Humanities Retreat, open to all students, faculty and alumni. This year’s theme is “Making Room for the Poor,” with special guest speakers Lydell Lettsome, M.D., M. Div., and Raquel Lettsome, Ph.D. The retreat will include breakout sessions, Q&A, meals, worship and community building. Registration is $15. The deadline to register is 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9.
