WACO, Texas (Feb. 2, 2017) – The American Heart Association has invited several national and local iconic landmarks to turn their facades red on Friday, Feb. 3, in support of the American Heart Association’s National Wear Red Day to elevate awareness of heart disease.

For the fourth straight year and beginning around 6 p.m. Friday, Baylor University’s Pat Neff Hall tower will be illuminated in red light to mark National Wear Red Day, joining other local landmarks such as Baylor Scott & White - Hillcrest, Dr Pepper Museum, I-35 bridges, KWTX-TV, McLennan County Courthouse, Providence Healthcare Network and MarathonNorco Aerospace.

Nationally, such well-known U.S. landmarks as Niagara Falls, the Empire State Building, the Sears Tower, the Space Needle in Seattle, Times Square and many more also have gone red in the past in support of the effort.

National Wear Red Day is an important part of the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women campaign to build awareness of heart disease in women, urge women to take concrete actions to reduce their risk and raise much-needed funds for women-centric cardiovascular research and education. More women die of heart disease each year than all forms of cancer combined. Yet 80 percent of heart and stroke incidents are completely preventable with healthier lifestyle choices.

The American Heart Association also will host its annual Go Red For Women luncheon Friday, Feb. 24, at McLane Stadium with a focus on the strides in the fight against heart disease in women in the past decade and the ongoing need to educate Central Texas women about their health risks.
