University for Young People to Study Waco Water Quality

Students in grades 4-5 enrolled in a University for Young People (UYP) geology class at Baylor University will explore the quality of Waco's water from 3-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, at Indian Springs Park and Proctor Springs in Cameron Park.
Dr. Joe Yelderman, associate professor of geology, will lead the students in a quest to measure the water quality as part of their goal to learn about local geological facts.
"We want to introduce the students to the field of geology and get them around university professors who work in the field," Yelderman said. "Exposure is a great thing."
The students have been attending class daily at 2:40 p.m. in Room 234 of the Sid Richardson Science Building. The class ends Friday, June 13. Another two-week geology class will begin Monday, June 16, for students entering grades 6-8.
UYP is a summer program designed to create opportunities for gifted students to interact with intellectual and creative peers and to initiate concepts, problems, information, activities and discussion not normally experienced in a typical classroom.
